Day 7: THE END TO A BEGINNING 10/01/2008
![]() Yesterday, September 30, was the official last day of the Hunger Challenge. I appreciate all the blog and Facebook comments…Yes, I am living proof that you can teach an old dog new ‘techno tricks.’ Your thoughts and words were truly motivating and inspired me to work through the hunger pangs, and the umpteen bowls of oatmeal. I know the challenge was no easy task for my Hunger Challenge Buddies, too. Kudos to Attilio D’Agostino from ALIVE Magazine, Rachel Storch, State Rep of 64th District, and Jeff Smith State Senator from the 4th District to sticking to their guns. CommentsChristy Wed, 01 Oct 2008 15:35:03 Way to go Greg. Congratulations and I hope this brings awareness to the great organization Food Outreach. Lori Wed, 01 Oct 2008 15:52:06 Greg, Wed, 01 Oct 2008 16:27:54 I completed the challenge this week also and It was really difficult to keep within the $3.62. Oatmeal was the lifesaver to control hunger but I started getting leg cramps and was worried about the limited dairy and lack of calcium and other minerals. I added a cheese slice to the apple slices and it helped some . But I lost two pounds. I think I will limit myself to $5.00 a day to get more dairy -- and use this as a weight control program for a while. Again I had access to full cooking facilities and good transportation to farmer's markets for low cost fresh foods. Thanks for letting me participate in your food challenge. It was a challenge! Thu, 02 Oct 2008 07:11:59 Greg - Congratulations! You certainly made us all more aware of the challenges people who are financially challenged face. Way to stick with the program! Paul Sarah K. Thu, 02 Oct 2008 07:51:52 You have made us all think long and hard about the struggles the less fortunate face ... especially those with debilitating diseases. It's been interesting for me to monitor how people "digest" the Challenge. Some use it to control weight; some use it to build up their self-esteem; some to control will power. But you digested this Challenge in its dire truth and with a spirit of sad awareness, as do the less fortunate people who are forced to LIVE A HUNGER CHALLENGE EVERY DAY. I didn't take the Challenge personally - but I gathered a "menu" of takeaways. ... Now, the task is solving the problem: Convincing the fortunate to waste less, and give more; Teaching the unfortunate to choose smartly, and to nourish their stomach - and spirit - at the same time. Thank you for stepping up to the "plate" and raising awareness. I hope the cup of generosity will overfloweth, due to your experience. ~ lurve, Sarah Leave a Reply |
